McINTYRE, Peter (1902)

Overview

A former Glenbuck Cherrypicker, Peter was signed from Sheffield United in 1902. He had also seen service with St Bernard’s, Preston North End and Portsmouth. One of the finest centre halves of the time it was said. Like Harry McIlvenny, he too was chosen for the benefit game against Arthurlie.

He was the first Accies player of whom a caricature was seen in the sports pages of the Hamilton Herald, long before the advent of photos appearing in the press, such was his standing in the game in Lanarkshire. He was another who played at a time when the League games were fewer in number per season, so having over 100 outings to his name tells it’s own story.

When the club won the Second Division Championship in 1904 he was at centre half and continued when the side made their debut in the top Division two years later. His final season was 1907-08 when he had to retire through injury. The Lanarkshire Cup brought him two winners medals, in 1905 and 1906, with a runners up spot in 1904.

Glenbuck born in November 1875.

Debut on 13th September 1902 in a Scottish League match at home to Motherwell.
