MURPHY, John (1925)
Overview
While with St Anthony’s he was played as a centre forward until Heart of Midlothian signed him in 1919 and they converted him into a fine right winger. He then went on loan to St Mirren in March 1922.
He came to Douglas Park in February 1925 at the age of 27. His appearances for Accies were restricted to Scottish Cup ties as he was actually on loan from Heart of Midlothian for that purpose, he played on the left wing for Hamilton. Later that year he moved to Motherwell and twelve months on he signed for Kilmarnock, in December 1926. He remained with them until October 1928 when he went on loan to Coleraine, a period which lasted until April 1929. When he left Kilmarnock in October 1929 for Ballymena United the Irish club parted with £100.
He was 5’7” and tipped the scales at 10sts. Born in Govan.
Debut on 21st February 1925 in a Scottish Cup tie at home to Raith Rovers.
