CURRAN, John (1901)
Overview
With Wishaw Thistle 1898 he then signed for Celtic though never achieved a first team outing and signed for Hamilton in 1901. John was an outside left.
In the Lanarkshire Cup competition he appeared in consecutive Finals for the club in 1902, 1903 and 1904, the first one being the only time he was on the winning side, against Albion Rovers, the others being versus Airdrieonians. He played in the side which clinched the Second Division Championship at Shawfield on 6th February 1904, scoring the first of the three goals in a 3-0 win.
Went to Partick Thistle with Harry McIlvenny prior to the start of season 1904-05. He returned to Douglas Park for a second spell. For a winger he scored a remarkable number of goals for the club. In November 1905 he again signed for Accies, from Abercorn. He was playing alongside Sandy Cowan in the Abercorn side in 1906. In the Final of the Scottish Qualifying Cup in 1913 their outside left was named Curran. I wonder! John was originally from Rothesay, he later resided in Whiteinch.
Debut on 14th September 1901 in a Scottish League match away to Abercorn in which he scored.
