DUFFY, Bertie (1943)

Overview

A Dundonian by birth, on April 19th 1913, Bertie played for Dundee St Joseph’s then Lochee Harp prior to his journeying south to join up at Celtic Park in 1935.

Another who went to several clubs, on loan during the Second World War. He returned to his native city in October 1939 to play with the Dens Parkers. On joining the RAF in 1940 he was soon playing in England, with Blackpool, Leeds United, Bradford City and Fulham.

It was in April 1943 that he came to Hamilton for a short spell. Huddersfield Town, Rochdale, Dundee United, Port Vale, Swansea Town, Newcastle United and Leeds United were his final clubs being given a free from Elland Road in April 1947. He then resumed his Celtic career for a couple of seasons. While in the RAF, he was a Physical Training Instructor.

Debut on 10th April 1943 in a Southern League match away to Heart of Midlothian.
