BORLAND, John (1925)
Overview
Rutherglen born, on 9th November 1903, he played with Glencairn, where he was capped for Scotland, then joined Raith Rovers, following which he moved to Kilmarnock, in June, 1923. With 55 appearances behind him he came to Hamilton two years later where he performed on the left wing, having been a centre forward in his junior days.
On leaving Accies he went to Wales and there played for Merthyr Town. In 1927 he made 5 appearances for Charlton Athletic. His next club was Southend United in July 1929 before moving north to Barrow in the 1930 close season. His final destination was Alloa in July 1931.
A strong left footed performer who also was handy with the golf clubs as he was a winner of the Scottish Professional Footballers title. In April 1938 he was appointed to the committee of Rutherglen Glencairn.
Debut on 15th August 1925 in a Scottish League match at Aberdeen.
