Overview

A winger who came to Hamilton from Motherwell in 1968. He had gone from Forth Wanderers to Celtic. On being freed from Celtic Park he decided to try his luck at Fir Park. Even although he made over two dozen league appearances for Accies, he never managed to hit the back of the net in all that time. Possibly a relation to Sam Clifford, another Accies player.

In 1963 John played for Scotland Schoolboys against Wales and Ireland. In 2007 he moved to Coach with Stonehouse Violet following a period with Forth Wanderers in a similar capacity. After a season at Tileworks Park he was replaced by another former Accie, Brian Martin.

Debut on 10th August 1968 in a Scottish League Cup tie at home to Motherwell which Accies won 2-1.
