Overview
Jock gained a Scottish Junior Cup Winners medal in 1939 when playing with Rutherglen Glencairn and was also capped as a junior for Scotland. He was signed by Ayr United and appeared for them against Accies in the last match played before the declaration of war in September 1939. A big rugged centre half who came from Ayr in September 1940.
He became Stirling Albion’s first captain when they joined the Scottish League after the Second World War. From 1945 until 1952 he was the rock at the heart of the Annfield defence. He was awarded a testimonial when Doncaster Rovers were the opposition. When the English club visited again in 1984 he was presented with a further memento. He had signed from Ayr United on 8th December 1945 and when he retired in 1952 he had played in 168 games for Albion scoring 13 times.
Jock was a miner. He had been attached to Hibernian at one time as well and in the late 1950’s he was trainer with Airdrieonians. His death occurred in June 1993 at the age of 76.
Debut on 7th September 1940 in a Southern League match away to Motherwell.
