KENNEDY, Willie (1938)

Overview

A very skilful player, Willie was born in Glasgow in 1912 and played for Renfrew based, Moorpark Amateurs before joining the junior ranks with Kilbirnie Ladeside in August 1932.

He then moved on to Arthurlie in 1933 and after only a month there he was signed by Kilmarnock. In his two years at Rugby Park he made only a handful of appearances and he was soon on the move to Southampton. Though an inside forward he was used at centre half while in England and met with some success.

Purchased from Southampton for a fee of £150 in August 1938, he remained with Accies during the war years. Early in the hostilities Accies met Airdrieonians in the 1939 Lanarkshire Cup Final and were victors by 5-1, Willie was played at outside right that day.

Debut on 10th September 1938 in a Scottish League match away to Motherwell.
