MONTGOMERY, John (1910)

Overview

A goalkeeper who was signed from Port Glasgow Athletic in 1910 and made a good impression on his debut in the Scottish Cup. He had previous experience with Motherwell, having gone there from Ardeer.

Spent almost a year at Douglas Park before Jimmy Watson took over the number one spot. He was one of three players introduced from the Renfrewshire side that season. The others being Speirs and Jackson.

Accies met Wishaw Thistle in the Final of the Lanarkshire Cup in 1910 and after two drawn games it was decided that the title would be held jointly, this decision allowed this fellow to accept a winners medal. In season 1914-15 he was reserve ‘keeper at Abercorn and was on guard duty at an explosives factory at Stevenston.

Debut in a Scottish Cup tie on 22nd January 1910 at home to Hibernian.
