Accies Career

Overview

He could be seen every week on the front of the Accies programme in the early 1950's. A dashing blond left winger with a strong shot, although a bit unpredictable at times. While at Douglas Park, he was the recognised penalty expert.

He had been signed by Sunderland in 1950 from Port Glasgow Athletic, and having only four games under his belt he returned to Scotland a year later in a deal which saw Bobby joining Accies and John McSeveney going to Roker Park along with a cheque for £750. His first year at the club was plagued by injury, however the following season he played a significant part in the club achieving promotion. When a select from the “B” Division was chosen to meet an Irish League XI on 15th April 1952, Bobby was chosen in the Scottish reserve team.

In 1954 Rangers came for him and parted with a fee of £2500. On not being able to meet the standards set at Ibrox he was released in 1956.

Born in Dunfermline on 12th February 1930. Died at a relatively young age.

Debut on 27th October 1951 away to Alloa Athletic in a Scottish League match which Accies lost 3-2.
