BROWN, Jock (1942)

Overview

A fine keeper who started his career with Glenburn Rovers, a Prestwick club, before being signed by Clyde in 1934. He was farmed out to Shawfield Juniors for almost a year. He came to Accies on loan in 1942.

In December that year he joined Aberdeen in a similar capacity prior to being transferred to Hibernian in 1942. Dundee were his next employers, while 18 months later, July 1949, he was appointed as physiotherapist/trainer to Kilmarnock after a short spell as a player there.

He was capped in 1939 v Wales and was also in the side to play the English League that year, culminating in a Cup Winners medal with Clyde. He was also chosen as reserve ‘keeper for an SFA XI versus an FA XI.

His two sons, Peter and Gordon played rugby for Scotland. He himself was also capped at junior level. He served in the Royal Navy during World War Two.

Born in Troon on 21st February 1915. Stood at 6’1” and weighed 12sts 11lbs. Not a keeper to be meddled with. A fine golfer, he played off scratch, winning many prizes at his home course in Troon.

Debut on 31st October 1942 in a Southern League fixture against Morton at Hamilton.
