BROWNLIE, William (1904)

Overview

For a long time he held the record for the most League appearances for the club. He was signed from Strathclyde in March 1904 following an appearance at left back in a friendly versus Celtic’s reserve side.

Willie was a great clubman and very popular with the Douglas Park fans. His record in the Lanarkshire Cup was quite impressive as he assisted the club to five Finals, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1909 and 1910, in the process he gained three winners gongs. When he emigrated with his parents to Canada he continued to play with Baracas FC of Hamilton, Ontario. His death was reported in 1943.

Debut on 5th March 1904 in a friendly versus Celtic Reserves at Douglas Park.
