SCOTT, John (1935)
Overview
A left full back signed from Douglasdale Juniors in 1935. On 8th September 1937, he was asked to play in a trial match organised by the Scottish League as a forerunner to picking a side to play against the English League.
John was the regular left back in the side from January 1937 until the outbreak of war in 1939 a period in which he missed only 14 League matches from a possible 96. One of his earliest games was when the attendance record was made at Hamilton, on 3rd March 1937 in a midweek Scottish Cup tie. His three goals were scored in a four week period from 3rd August until 17th September 1938 and all were penalties. He was in his usual place when Accies defeated Airdrieonians 5-1 in the Final of the Lanarkshire Cup at Broomfield in October 1939.
Solidly built, he measured 5’10”. Lived in Lanark.
Debut on 24th August 1936 in a Lanarkshire Cup match away to Airdrieonians.
