CRAMB, Colin (1991)

Overview

Tall, gangly youngster who joined the club as a YTS signing in July 1990, he played with Accies Boys Club in 1991, the same year that he signed full professional forms. Prior to that he had been with Shotts YM, then Jerviston Boys Club. Made his Accies debut as a substitute against Partick Thistle and the following match he was on from the start at Greenock and he scored twice in a 4-0 win.

He and Paul McDonald were transferred to Southampton in a double deal at the close of the 1992-93 season, £60,000 coming to Accies for Colin's part of the deal. While at Douglas Park he won a B and Q Cup winners medal against Morton at Love Street in 1992. The following year he was in the Accies starting eleven when Rangers came to Douglas Park to contest the final of the Reserve League Cup and went away with the trophy following a 3-1 win. Therefore another medal was added to his collection.

From Southampton he came back to Falkirk in August 1994 for a sum of £45,000, after only one Premiership outing. He next took his boots to Tynecastle Park in February 1995, this time the fee was £50,000, only to move yet again that same year to Doncaster Rovers for a fee said to be in the region of £25,000. This following a change of Manager at Tynecastle. By April, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest were reported to be prepared to pay up to £350,000 for him.

At the start of the new season he had gone to Bristol City and while at Ashton Gate he assisted the club in gaining promotion the First Division. Accies met St Johnstone in a closed door friendly in March 1999 and Colin scored two of the Saints goals as a trialist in a 3-1 win. From Bristol City, on 6th August 1999 Crewe Alexandra paid £250,000 for him. He was on the transfer list at Crewe when season 2000-01 opened. By the end of September he went on loan to Notts County. Colin was playing with Dutch side Fortuna Sittard in 2001-02. He was due to play as a trialist for Accies against Berwick Rangers on 1st January 2003 but the match was postponed and he returned to play with Bury.

For the start of the new season in 2003 he went to Shrewsbury Town. There he netted 10 goals in 8 pre-season matches. On 14th January 2005 he returned to Accies following a short time with Grimsby Town. At the end of the 2005 season he decided to move on again as he allegedly said he was not happy playing on the artificial surface and he signed for Stenhousemuir where he was their top scorer.

Following a fall out with the Ochilview management he left the club prior to the end of the season and when the new season opened he was playing as a trialist with Allan Moore’s Stirling Albion. He was signed and continued his goalscoring exploits as the Stirling side chased Morton for the Second Division title in 2007. Then appointed as Player/Coach at Stirling. With the Stirling club relegated in 2008 he was attracted to East Stirlingshire under their new boss, Jim McInally. There he became a big favourite as the Firs Park side progressed but before the season’s close he had left the club.

Colin has the distinction of being the only player to score for the club at Douglas Park and New Douglas Park.
