Accies Career

Overview

Davie found his best position with Accies quite by chance. He was signed as a centre forward from the crack Glasgow juvenile team, League Hearts, in 1946. Made his debut at Firhill against Partick Thistle on the opening day of the season. Although he only played in fourteen games he finished top of the club’s scoring list with seven goals. With Accies relegated to the former "B" Division, Davie started the season with eight goals from four matches, including all four at Arbroath. Then injuries kept him out things. During the next two years he made less than a dozen appearances.

At the start of the next season he was asked to play at centre half in an emergency and he was an immediate success, so much so that for the next three seasons he had no challengers for the position at Hamilton.

He was chosen to play in a representative match where he captained a Second Division Select against an Irish League XI, which the Scots won 6-0. Injury caught up with him again and he retired in 1954. A tremendous player who gave his all for Accies, a truly one club man. He was a master joiner in his "every day" job.

Debut on 10th August 1946 in a Scottish League match away to Partick Thistle in a 4-1 defeat.
