McLEAN, Finlay (1902)

Overview

An outside right of quality, he was a resident of Maryhill and played for Glasgow Perthshire and it was while at Keppoch Park he came to Douglas Park in 1902 at the age of 23.

The last of the three players from Hamilton who were chosen in the side to represent the Second Division at Barrhead in 1906. That same year he was a member of the triumphant Accies side which annexed the Lanarkshire Cup at Meadow Park, Whifflet when Airdrieonians provided the opposition. He was a remarkable scorer for someone in his position while with Accies and his displays while at Hamilton brought the Scottish selectors. A loyal club man he was part of the side which won the Second Division title in 1904.

At the commencement of the following season he had new employers when he joined Celtic. With a year behind him he once again signed for Accies where he remained until a move took him to Workington in 1909. He was the first player from the club to get a nomination from them as he was chosen for the reserve side to face Wales at Dens Park in 1907.

Again he came back to Douglas Park in 1910 before a year later turning out for Abercorn, finally ending his Scottish League career with Renton.

Debut in a Qualifying Cup match at home to Kilbarchan on 4th October 1902 which Accies won 5-2, he scored the first goal.
