BARR, Robert (1986)

Overview

Bobby's first senior club was Queen's Park whom he joined in 1983 from Campsie Black Watch. After only a year at Hampden, he moved to Alloa and it was while there that John Lambie brought him to Accies. The transfer cost Accies £15,000, plus Gus Smith, which was reckoned to add another £5000 onto the sum.

He was one of the seven new faces in Accies first ever Premier League fixture. He was mainly used as a midfielder while at Douglas Park and showed some clever touches. In January 1987 he broke his leg against Rangers at Ibrox. After a long spell off he came back to play for the reserve side, and while with them he again sustained a leg break in a match against Airdrie in 1988. He battled back once more and on being released he signed a month's contract for Stranraer before he tried the junior game and played with Arthurlie and Annbank United, where his play attracted senior attention once again and Stenhousemuir took him to Ochilview in 1991. Three years later he was with Camelon Juniors.

Truly a brave player, he was a strong performer in the middle of the park and a good passer of the ball. In 2007 he was a Youth Coach with St Johnstone after a spell as Manager to the amateur side, Harestanes.

Born in Lennoxtown on 16th May 1962.

Debut on 9th August 1986 in Accies first Premier League match which was at home to Clydebank and was lost 1-0.
