KERR, John (1917)
Overview
Came to Accies as a full back, from Parkhead Juniors in 1917. Went on to play as a half back as well. He was a Hamilton boy who had been with Bent Royal Oak and Cambuslang Rangers previously. Received a Lanarkshire Cup winners medal in 1920. He was capped at junior level and as a result was chosen to play for a Senior/Junior International Select at Ibrox against Celtic in May 1921. He had actually to be registered as having transferred to Rangers.
Two years later he was placed on the transfer list, his fee being reduced to £50 after appealing to the Scottish League. During season 1923-24 he was appearing for Bathgate.
John joined the Board of Directors of Accies in 1928. While holding that position he turned out for the club in a 5-a-side tournament that same year. His brother Jason, played for a time with Everton. John was later Preston North End’s chief scout in Scotland and in 1935 he was on a short leet of four considered for the post of manager to Albion Rovers.
5’7” and 11sts 3lbs.
Debut on 3rd November 1917 in a Scottish League match at home to Third Lanark.
