POLLOCK, Alex (1920)
Overview
Sanny came from Blantyre Victoria in 1920 having been signed by them from the prominent juvenile side, Burnbank Argyle. He had had a good season with the Castle Park club and much was expected of him. He appeared in the early part of the season principally at inside left, but lost his place with the arrival of Lachie McMillan.
He left Accies at the end of the season and rejoined Blantyre Victoria. He gave up the game prematurely and was a member of the committee at Blantyre before in 1926 Blantyre Celtic asked him to play for them and his career was resurrected.
Two years later he was transferred to Glasgow Perthshire and he captained their side when they defeated Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in the Scottish Junior Cup Final in 1932 at Firhill in front of 13,000, with Sanny at centre half at this stage in his playing days. He returned to his first love when he again joined the committee at Castle Park.
He died at his home in High Blantyre in 1945 at the age of 50. A great player and a gentleman.
Debut in a Friendly at home to Airdrieonians which finished 0-0 on 14th August 1920.
