WALLACE, Robert (1934)
Overview
Bobby was a right back who was a very promising young player when he was signed from Blantyre Victoria in late January 1934 and was immediately pitched into first team action at right back, when he made an extremely impressive debut and came through with flying colours. Later matches saw him at right half for a time before reverting to his usual full back role. He was born in Polmont. At the time of him coming to Douglas Park he was residing in Bothwell. 3rd March 1937 was a big day for him as he was a member of the Accies team when the ground record of 28,690 was set.
The Scottish League requested his attendance to play in a trial match at Firhill on 8th September 1937. Played his part in the Final of the Lanarkshire Cup on 14th October 1939 when Accies won 5-1 against Airdrieonians at Broomfield. In May 1943 he played as a guest with Celtic with Jimmy McGurk. He was given a free transfer in September 1943. He was then taken on at Dumbarton. A few months earlier he had played in goal for the club in a Summer Cup tie against Dumbarton as Accies struggled for a goalkeeper.
