Overview

A Lesmahagow man, born there in 1889, he came to Accies in 1923 with a wealth of senior experience, having been with Rangers from January 1909 before going to Kilmarnock in September 1913, while there he appeared 32 times for them at centre half. Back to Rangers at the end of the 1913-14 term, in April.

A month onwards and he was with Bradford City before returning to Lanarkshire to turn out for Royal Albert, there his stay was brief, a month, then with Stevenston United for almost a year until he joined Ayr United in August 1916, then Abercorn in 1917, back once more with Bradford City, signing for them in the 1919 close season.

Thereafter he in turn appeared for Preston North End, Oldham Athletic and Birmingham City then finally to Douglas Park. His formative days, football wise, were spent with Dalziel Rovers, Burnbank Athletic and Larkhall United. In 1923 he went to New Brighton on trial, then to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Non League sides next attracted him and he was with Aberman Athletic, Chorley, then north to Fraserburgh followed by a spell in Germany. One of the many who appeared with Dick Kerr’s XI before finally moving to Ribble Motors.

He died in Sible, Hedingham on 17th September 1966.

A big rugged defender, he measured 5’9” and 11sts 7lbs, his displays at centre half were below par and his outings for Accies were limited.

Debut on 14th August 1923 in a Lanarkshire Cup tie at home to Hamilton Garrison.
