MILLER, John (1915)

Overview

Another of the Miller brothers, John came from Blantyre Vics in September 1915. He had been with Larkhall United, Larkhall Thistle, Mossend Hibs and Ardrossan Winton Rovers also.

All of his games for Accies at that time were at centre forward and it was a great pity that the First World War interrupted his career at Douglas Park as he was an extremely promising individual and went on to have a long career in the sport. In November 1915, he enlisted with the Glasgow Highlanders along with brother Tom.

He played for Liverpool between 1918 and 1921. He then joined Aberdeen. While there he was a prolific goalscorer and led the line until 1927. Though he was said to be on the books of Partick Thistle in 1925 and played against Liverpool for Accies as a guest in April 1925 when he one of the scorers in a 3-2 win over the Anfield club. He next played for Clyde then Dundee.

Before the commencement of the 1928-29 season he signed for Dunfermline Athletic. He then appeared with Prescott Cables and Barrow. He also signed for Carlisle United.

First saw the light of day in Motherwell on March 12th 1890. At the height of his career he measured 5’9” and weighed 11sts 10lbs.

Debut on 25th September 1915 in a Scottish League fixture away to Falkirk.
