1878/79

Overview

Similar to the previous twelve months not too many matches were competed, for 11 in total were all that can be found. The Scottish Cup accounted for 2 of them, Uddingston were again the opponents but this time the venue was in Hamilton and the home side triumphant by 3 goals to 1. The next round took them to meet Stonelaw where they were defeated. In these days the first three rounds were drawn locally.

Despite the Scottish Cup loss, the season was successful as far as the remainder of the games played were concerned, the most notable being on 23rd November 1878 when a visit was made to Edinburgh to meet “the crack team of the east”, Heart of Midlothian. The journey home was no doubt joyous following a 2-1 victory. All the other matches were played at home and no defeats were noted, signs of progress perhaps.
