HAILSTONES, Bobby (1897)

Overview

Lived in Kirkmuirhill. In season 1895-96 he was with Burnbank Athletic and it was while with them that he came to Douglas Park in January 1897. He had appeared for Motherwell in a friendly match against Bolton Wanderers a month earlier. Small, but determined.

On leaving Accies in 1898 he moved to East Stirling. He played on the right wing. While there he was a member of the team which beat Arthurlie 4-1 to win the Scottish Qualifying Cup in season 1898-99 at Hampden before a crowd of 8,000. In 1901 he was a Royal Albert player.

Debut 16th October 1897 at home in a Lanarkshire Cup tie versus Royal Albert which Accies won 5-0. Albert protested about Bobby and the match was replayed without him. Accies again won, this time it was 2-0.
