STEWART, Robert (1917)

Overview

A youngster who was brought from Blantyre Victoria in 1917 with good credentials but he found it was a different matter playing at the higher level and was allowed to leave the club. Maybe he was too quick in stepping up to senior.

He was reinstated to Bellshill Athletic in 1919. Assistant trainer in the late 1930’s. He ran as an athlete under the name of R. Cross of Edinburgh and as such was a winner of the Powderhall Mile Handicap. In April 1938 he took on the additional role of coach to Hamilton Harriers.

Debut on 1st September 1917 in a Scottish League match at Douglas Park against Motherwell.
