Overview

A much travelled player during his career. He played for Whifflet Rob Roy prior to joining Larkhall Thistle, in 1947. After only two weeks as a junior he signed for Kilmarnock. At Rugby Park he only made twelve first team appearances before he went to Airdrieonians in December of 1949. Southport was his next club, and after only a month there, appearing once, he was next signed by Stenhousemuir in 1951.

From there he was transferred to Accies in 1953 for the sum of £500. He was an excellent purchase as all who saw him will testify, as a hard working inside forward. In January 1955, Clyde paid £3500 to transfer him to Shawfield, this proved to be a good investment, not only for Accies, but also Clyde as George was in the side which won the Scottish Cup for them that year.

Even then he was still on the move. In 1956 he joined Bradford Park Avenue. His career continued in England with Poole Town, Yiewsley and Ilkeston Town. He was a grand player while with Accies, especially in the Second Division in 1954-55.

He was top scorer for Accies with sixteen goals despite only playing in nineteen matches before his transfer. The fans, needless to say, were sorry to see him go. He actually turned out in an Accies shirt for the first time under the name of "Black", in the pre-season trials in 1954.

Born in Airdrie on 8th May 1928.

Debut on 8th August 1953 away to Heart of Midlothian in a Scottish League Cup tie in a 5-0 defeat.
