McKENZIE, Murdoch (1927)

Overview

A former Portsmouth, Darlington and Ayr United performer, first thoughts on his debut were that the fact that he hadn’t played for a while were evident as he was slow and uncertain. Played as an inside forward in all his appearances. He was placed on the transfer list at the close of the season at a fee of £200. Originally from the town of Ayr.

In 1924 he was a guest player with Celtic on an English tour. He was Ayr’s top scorer that year with 16 League and Cup goals. When the Somerset club were relegated in 1925 he left them, that may have been when he went Darlington. During the First World War he served in Constantinople.

Born at Benhar.

Debut on 10th September 1927 in a Scottish League match away to Airdrieonians.
