EGLINTON, Matt (1910)
Overview
A Motherwell born boy who joined Accies in 1910 from Larkhall Thistle. He was said to have been on trial with Rangers and Celtic before coming to Douglas Park. Matt was a grand acquisition for the club and had few equals in his position at left half.
When he appeared in the Final of the Lanarkshire Cup in August 1910 he had been less than a month with the club and was in the side which held the cup on a joint basis with Wishaw Thistle after two drawn encounters. He also went to the Final of the Scottish Cup in 1911 in his first season as a senior. During his time at Douglas Park he missed few first team games, almost all through injury. For a reported transfer fee of £250 he went to Motherwell in May 1914.
He was 5'9" and weighed 11sts.
At the time of his retirement he was a foreman in Anderson Boyes.
