WAUGH, John (1909)

Overview

Signed from Dykehead, had been with Hearts previously. On 30th April 1912 he played in the Lanarkshire players team v the Larkhall players at Hamilton. Season 1913-14 saw him join Raith Rovers. In May 1914 he signed for Motherwell.

John was an inside right and he appeared in the side which travelled to Ibrox to contest the Scottish Cup Final against Celtic in 1911. A nicely balanced individual, he formed a great understanding with his partner, John H. McLaughlin.

He was a miner and like so many of them he was a keen pigeon fancier, a sport in which he was very successful. He was referred to as “Shoogly” Waugh.

Dykehead born, he was 5'9" and 12sts.

Debut on 28th August 1909 in a Scottish League match away to Falkirk.
