SHREEVE, John (1943)
Overview
One more war time guest player. His date of birth was 18th August 1917. John was a full back who was with Charlton Athletic. In 1944 he was in the Charlton side which won the English League Cup (South), at Wembley before a record war time attendance of 85,000 when they defeated Chelsea 3-1. Another war time Accie, William Robinson, also appeared for them at that time.
Came to Douglas Park for the opening of the 1943-44 season and had a run at right back with Jimmy McGurk moving to the left. John left when he was stationed elsewhere. Among his clubs over that period were Swansea Town, Bradford City, Middlesboro’ and Burnley. His death occurred in 1966.
Debut on 14th August 1943 in a Southern League match at home to Falkirk.
