RICHARDSON, John (1923)
Overview
He was referred to as “the new Jock Davie” when he joined the club in 1923 from Burnbank Athletic. On 14th October 1924, he was signed by Tottenham Hotspur. A report of the day stated that he had spent 10 years at White Hart Lane then played for a number of English clubs before being appointed as Tottenham’s Scottish scout. He had been with Reading, Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic and finally, Folkestone.
He ran an amateur side, Rook Star, in Uddingston for a number of years. He lived in New Edinburgh Road, Uddingston. It was said that he was responsible for such as Dave Mackay, John White and Alan Gilzean joining the London club.
Born in Motherwell on 11th November 1906, he died in Law Hospital on 2nd January 1986 in his 80th year.
Debut against Hamilton Garrison in a 7-0 home win on 14th August 1923 in a Lanarkshire Cup tie.
