Overview

John played in the club’s inaugural season in the Scottish League in 1897-98, though not in the first match as such. Joined Accies from Hamilton FC. He played at full back or as a half back. His last game for the club was in 7-1 away drubbing at Kilmarnock on 10th December 1898.

Four of his sons played at Junior level, while one, also John, played for Carluke Rovers and in 1935 it was thought by many that he too would land at Douglas Park, however he signed for Queen’s Park while still a schoolboy at Dalziel High, before in 1939 moving to Motherwell.

Debut at home on 16th October against Royal Albert in a Lanarkshire Cup tie which was won 5-0, and replayed due to a protest.
