TEAM NEWS

Ally Dawson made one change from the side that had won down at Dumbarton, with Michael Moore missing out through injury. Cult hero Alex Eadie was his replacement.

THE MATCH

This match always looked like being one of those occasions where one team simply dominates the other. Accies were the better team from start to finish and Elgin were unable to take the one decent chance they created.

Accies were perhaps a bit nervous going into the match and it took them a while to settle into any kind of rhythym. The fans were beginning to get a little bit restless and it was ahuge relief when Accies took the lead after 33 minutes.

Jim Sherry took advantage of some poor defensive play by Elgin to run through unchallenged and his fine shot from the edge of the box (with the outside of his right boot) beat the Elgin 'keeper low to his left. This was wee Jim's first goal since he returned to the club and he was mobbed by his team mates.

Accies continued to dominate but it was a couple of goals in as many minutes half way through the second half by top scorer Davie McFarlane that finally allowed the fans to relax. First of all, a cross was headed on by Paul Gaughan into Davie's path and his header gave the Elgin goalie no chance.

Two minutes later, Alex Eadie controlled a cross well on the edge of the 6 yard box before allowing Davie to crack it high into the net.

That was the end of the scoring, although McFarlane had a shot cleared off the line and Jim Sherry was unlucky to see a great volley from outside the box crash back off the bar with 'keeper beaten.

Elgin's one chance came at 1-0, when one of their forwards was clean through on Ian Macfarlane. Faldo saved well at a crucial time. He was later involved in a clash of heads which apparently gave him a broken nose. He was subbed by Graham Potter and will miss the rest of the season.

Towards the end the fans had a bit of fun with the Rock Steady stewards who had been fooled into thinking that there would be a pitch invasion. There was never any intention of this but it was quite funny all the same.

Just at the end Alex Eadie was replaced by Alex Lurinsky, but he didn't have enough time to make any impression on the game.

IN CONCLUSION...

It was a good win for Accies and a fine way to bring down the curtain on what has been an unhappy stay at Firhill. The news that Cowdenbeath had dropped points made it a superb day for Accies.

Accies lineup:

Graham Potter replaced Ian Macfarlane after 71 minutes

Alex Lurinsky replaced Alex Eadie after 87 minutes.
