BELL, John (1925)
Overview
Dr Bell was a well known amateur athlete, notably as a sprinter. He had been with Queen’s Park and had spent several seasons with them. When medical studies took him to London in 1920 he was signed by Chelsea where he spent three years. He made 43 appearances for them and scored 9 goals. Also in 1920 he was in contention for a place in the British team for the Olympics in Antwerp.
He came to Accies in January 1925. He scored in the 3-2 win over Liverpool at Anfield four months later. By the commencement of the following season he had parted company with Hamilton. In February 1927 he was turning out for Cowdenbeath.
Born in Dumbarton on 5th April 1901, he was 5’11” and weighed 12sts.
Debut on 17th January 1925 in a Scottish League match away to Hibernian.
