McLAREN, Benny (1921)
Overview
A small but nippy centre forward who came to the club from East Fife prior to the start of season 1921-22. His claim to fame in the hoops was in the Scottish Cup tie against Gala Fairydean on 28th January 1922 when he scored a double hat trick in a 9-0 win over the borders club. The tie had been due to played in Galashiels but they decided to give up their ground rights and play the match at Douglas Park instead. Benny’s lack of height was a disadvantage to him in the First Division and he only spent one season at Hamilton.
Before going to Bayview he was playing in the Scottish Junior League with Cadder. A resident of Bishopbriggs.
Debut on 17th August 1921 in a Scottish League match at home to Heart of Midlothian.
