McGOURTY, Jimmy (1934)

Overview

Joined up at Firhill from Fauldhouse United, his local junior side. He spent a season with the Jags in 1931-32 when he turned out for them on 34 occasions and netted 7 goals. On 5th May 1932 he had gone from Partick Thistle to Goodison and it was July 1934 he came to Douglas Park. Said to be the “new Alex Herd”.

It was said that he was Accies record signing at that time. An inside forward he was a disappointment and appeared in only a few matches for the club and by the end of the season he was released.

Reported to be playing in the Irish Free State in 1936 with Waterford. He spent some time there and also appeared in English non-league fixtures before former Accies manager, Scott Duncan, took him to Ipswich Town in 1938.

Born in Fauldhouse on 10th July 1917.

Debut on 11th August 1934 in a Scottish League match away to Hibernian.
