BALMER, Stuart (2005)

Overview

Born in Falkirk on 20th September 1969 he joined Clyde from Boston United in August 2004 as Player/Assistant Manager to Billy Reid. A strong defender who came with Billy when he took over at New Douglas Park in 2005.

While at Falkirk High he represented the Scottish Schoolboys 5 times in 1985. Began his career in 1989 as an apprentice with Celtic. He went to Charlton Athletic and was there for eight years. While at The Valley with Charlton the London club allocated him the number one jersey as they introduced squad numbers, it is thought that he is the first outfield player to be allocated that number.

Three years were spent with Wigan Athletic and while there played in the Auto Windscreens Cup Final against Millwall at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff in 1999, before he turned out for Oldham Athletic, Scunthorpe United and Boston United.

At the close of the 2005-06 season he was not prepared to accept the terms offered by Accies and he went to St Mirren as a Coach under Gus McPherson and Andy Millen.

6’ 1” and stoped the scales at 13sts 7lbs.

Debut on 30th July 2005 in a League Challenge Cup tie away to Queen’s Park in a 3-0 win.
