Accies Career

Overview

When Andy Paton signed Davie from Birmingham City at the beginning of 1959, he brought a player of great talent to the town. He had been a first class junior while with Duntocher Hibernian and it was no great surprise that he had been in demand while with the Glenhead Park club.

Not able to settle in the Midlands, his arrival at Douglas Park saw him start a new career which was to last until 1966. He was an excellent inside forward and his passes to his wing partner, Jim McLean provided many goal opportunities.

He himself knew where the goals lay, indeed in 1962 he was top scorer for the club with twenty two goals from the forty five league and cup matches he played in. Overall he scored eighty eight times in his stint with Accies.

Without a doubt he was one of the finest to turn out in red and white jersey in the post war years. Allied to his undoubted skill was a fierce will to win which sometimes brought him to the attention of the referee.

Debut on 3rd January 1959 at home to Dundee United in a Scottish League match in which he scored the only goal.
