Overview

Willie played a trial while in the Highland Light Infantry and so impressed Willie McAndrew when he played in a side which contained three other new faces, he himself was at inside left, that he was signed. He was later converted to outside right and there his performances gave satisfaction in an campaign which saw 50 players appear in the 30 League matches played. Hibernian took him on loan in April 1943.
