CUMMING, Lawrie (1938)

Overview

Signed in July 1938 from Queen of the South. Made a promising debut at Easter Road at inside right. With the most of his footballing days behind him he was released by Accies in April 1939.

At the close of the war he was attached to an Army PT Unit. He was offered the opportunity of going to either America or Malta as an athletics coach. He later spent a considerable time in the newspaper business as a football scribe. Lawrie was a native of Londonderry, though resided in Glasgow.

Played for Alloa then Huddersfield Town where he was capped for Northern Ireland against Wales and Scotland, next while with Oldham he was capped against England, this in 1930. His next employer was Southampton FC. He was then out of the game for a couple of years before joining Queen of the South. later he turned out for Alloa Athletic again, then St Mirren. He toured Spain and Morocco in 1935. Hobbies of his included bowls, billiards and golf. Born in Derry in 1907.

Debut on 13th August 1938 in a Scottish League match away to Hibernian in which he scored.
