CHALMERS, Paul, (1993)

Overview

Son of one of Celtic's Lisbon Lions, so he had a difficult road ahead of him. Originally played for St Helen’s Primary School in Bishopbriggs and then with Eastercraigs before joining Celtic in 1980. Paul went on loan to Bradford City in 1986 and later that year he played a trial for Nottingham Forest.

He was transferred to St Mirren in September that year where he was more successful. His scoring ability made him their leading scorer in the Premier League during 1988-89 with eleven goals to his name. Two years later he moved south to Swansea City, then came to Dunfermline in 1992.

Paul came to Accies on a free transfer from Dunfermline Athletic in 1993, scoring on his debut, at Brechin. He was quite effective in the air, and while with Accies he was used in defence and attack. His goal against Airdrie at Firhill in the Ne'erday match in 1995 was one to savour.

Freed at his own request in 1995 he was signed by Gordon Dalziel for Ayr United. His next move took him to East Fife. Capped by Scotland at Youth level.

Born in Glasgow on 31st October 1963.

Debut on 7th August 1993 in a Scottish League match away to Brechin City in which he scored in a 2-1 win.
