Accies Career
Overview
His four goals against Motherwell in the Ne'erday game at Douglas Park in 1987 will long be remembered by the Accies faithful. Shortly after that he was transferred to Newcastle United for a fee of £95,000. Not a bad piece of business by John Lambie as it had been reported that he cost only £12,000 when he came from Dumbarton only a few months earlier.
He was a nippy player who had gone to Boghead from Yoker Athletic in 1982. His time at St James' Park didn't last too long, though while he was there he had returned to Hamilton on loan as promotion was consolidated for the second time in three years. Northampton Town also had him on loan while he was a Newcastle player. While at Newcastle, Albert struck up a keen friendship with Peter Beardsley.
His return to Scotland on a free transfer took him on the road and miles to Dundee in 1989 and he scored his only Premier League goal that season for the Dark Blues against Accies. John Lambie entered the transfer market once more for him and took him to Firhill and then to Falkirk. It would appear that Albert was the type of player liked by John Lambie. At the age of 36 he signed for Stenhousemuir after being at Brockville. Once again he signed for one of John Lambie’s teams, this time in August 1999 for Partick Thistle. He was freed by the Firhill club in 2000.
Eight years on and Albert was assisting Clyde by checking on other teams in their league for them.
Born in Glasgow on 3rd January 1962.
Debut on 13th August 1986 in a Premier League match away to Heart of Midlothian which Accies lost 1-0, he came on as a substitute.
