Overview

Signed from Shotts United in 1931, Eddie was a goalkeeper. His junior club played in the Intermediate League and he was chosen to represent the League against Ayrshire at Wishaw on 31st December 1928. Another representative honour came his way a year later when he again found himself as the chosen goalkeeper for the Lanarkshire Intermediate League to meet the West Intermediate League again early in 1930. His debut match was at home to Third Lanark and he acquitted himself well.

In November 1932 the Irish FA contacted the club to advise that Eddie was being considered as a possible contender for the number one jersey against Wales on 7th December. The call never came as the legendary Liverpool ‘keeper, Elisha Scott, was able to play.

On 11th February 1933 Eddie was carried off at Ayr with a particularly bad knee injury and never appeared for Accies again. By the end of 1933 it was decided that his career was over which was a great disappointment to the Accies faithful and a big blow to an excellent ‘keeper.

Born in Ireland, he was 6’ and weighed 12sts. Died at the age of 83.

Debut on 8th August 1931 in a Scottish League fixture at home to Third Lanark.
