EGLINTON, Dougie (1897)

Overview

Dougie was the first Accies player to score under Scottish League auspices in 1897 when Kilmarnock visited Douglas Park on that historic occasion. Joined Accies from Abercorn. Had been with Uddingston Rangers earlier in his career. Played for Lanarkshire East versus Lanarkshire West in April 1897.

He was normally a centre forward though he did appear quite often at inside right as well. In the early League years he was the clubs leading scorer until he was overtaken by Finlay McLean. His League career spanned three seasons at Hamilton. He was later reported to be playing for Wishaw United.

A resident of Uddingston while with Accies, at the time of his death, on 9th March 1929, after a long illness, he was staying in Glasgow.

Debut 11th September 1897 against Motherwell in Qualifying Cup at home which ended 3-4.
