Falkirk 1

Hughes 11

Hamilton Accies 1

Javary 1

Report by Muttley

Falkirk and Accies shared the spoils in a highly entertaining and often controversial match at the Falkirk stadium. Accies got off to the perfect start as Jean-Philippe Javary headed past Darren Hill from a first minute Brian Carrigan free kick.

But after intense pressure, which saw Daniel McBreen and Darryl Duffy go close, Falkirk equalised in 11 minutes when John Hughes looped a header over Dave McEwan from a poorly cleared Russell Latapy corner.

Mark Corcoran raced in on goal in 13 minutes but Hill recovered to claw the ball away as the winger attempted to round him. But the talking point for Accies will be Iain Brines' incredible decision to deny Hamilton a blatant penalty after Hill pulled down Corcoran, who had skipped past the 'keeper in 22 minutes. McBreen followed up a McEwan block from an Alan Kernaghan shot in 31 minutes but the "goal" was correctly flagged offside.

In the second half Pat Keogh sent a soaring drive over from 20 yards in 52 minutes. As Falkirk battered the Accies' defence, Sandy Hodge cleared a dangerous cross before Neil Scally fired a low drive in which McEwan did well to parry in 57 minutes. Two minutes later, McBreen was sent through and, looking likely to score, was denied by a fine McEwan block.

Carrigan sent a wickedly curling effort towards the left corner in 67 minutes after good work by Marcel Mahouvé and Pat Keogh but Hill saved well.

Two minutes from time, Steven Thomson had a low shot cleared off the line following a Corcoran corner. Seconds from the end a fine low Paquito cross from the right was just missed by sub Brian McPhee at the left post.

It was a good team performance with the new boys fitting in well, particularly Marcel Mahouvé who looks to be a classy acquisition. It will probably go down as Accies best performance of the season and gives them a real boost ahead of the big game against Partick Thistle next week.

A point was richly deserved in a game where both sides created chances and a loss would have been incredibly harsh on Allan Maitland's men.
