PURDIE, Alex (1911)
Overview
A March 1911 signing from Larkhall United at the same time as Tom Miller. With Wishaw Thistle in October 1912. He moved to Pontypridd in July 1913. From there he returned to Douglas Park in May 1914.
Originated from Newmains, he was a great favourite with the fans, probably one of the reasons why he returned to Accies so often. He was a proud man when Accies won the Lanarkshire Cup in April 1920 and he was at right half that day.
A Benefit Match was played for him on 29th September 1920 when a Lanarkshire Select defeated a Glasgow Select by 5 goals to 2 at Douglas Park. He was only 18 when he came to Douglas Park. One of the few players to appear in 200 League games for the club at that period in time. In 1922 he was turning out for Dykehead.
5’9” 12st.
Debut on 18th March 1911 in a Scottish League match away to Heart of Midlothian.
