BAIRD, Douglas (1970)

Overview

Made his name with Partick Thistle as a class full back. He went to the Firhill side in 1954 from Armadale Thistle. A move to Notts Forest came in September 1960 followed by his transfer to Plymouth Argyle in 1963. There he remained until 1967.

While at Firhill he was selected to play for the Scottish League in 1960 in a match which the Scots won by four goals to one in Dublin. The year previous he had turned out in a Scottish representative side against Jutland. He was also capped at Under 23 level. Tommy Ewing had been at Firhill at the same time as Doug and when Tommy became Manager to Accies he made him first team Coach and he also turned out for the side in an emergency in 1970. Coached Dunipace Juniors in 1971. Born in Falkirk on 26th November 1935.

Debut on 7th February 1970 in a Scottish League match at home to Dumbarton which Accies lost 3-1.
