Overview

2004 must have been the year for Accies to sign Australian born players; David was the third after Ian Fyfe and Scott Tunbridge. He had been with Everton as a youth and had brief spells with Oldham Athletic, Halifax Town and Bradford City before he played in midfield for Accies reserves as a trialist showing enough ability to encourage Allan Maitland to sign him as an amateur. Though Aussie born, he spoke with a strong Scouse accent. A stocky, blond midfielder.

At the start of 2005 he returned to Merseyside before going to Australia where he hoped to play. When Terry Butcher left Motherwell to manage Sydney, he made David his first signing in June 2006. Such was his progress that less than a year later he was in the Australian National Squad having been part of the Sydney squad which qualified for the World Club Championship.

He returned to these shores and was signed by Neil Warnock for Sheffield United for a fee of AU$125,000. He had a successful spell there until Kevin Blackwell took over as Manager of the Blades and in January 2009 he went on loan to Norwich City.

By the commencement of the new season he was in Holland with FC Twente. The holder of 2 Under 20 caps and 38 full Australian caps, he was named by an Aussie magazine as the Australian Player of the Year in 2007-08 ahead of such as Tim Cahill, Mark Viduka and Harry Kewell. He played for the “Socceroos” on 19th June 2010 in the World Cup versus Ghana as a left sided defender in South Africa.

Born in Sydney on 30th November 1983.

Debut on 27th November 2004 in a Scottish League match at home to Airdrie United which Accies lost 3-1.
