DEMPSEY, John (1934)

Overview

John appeared at outside right in the second last game of the 1933-34 League season at Parkhead. Reported to have had a “useful” game. The following season he was retained and appeared regularly with the reserve side.

As was common in the 1930’s, players birthplaces were given in the press at the commencement of each season, John’s was reported as Auchinstarry. He was 5’8” and stopped the scales at 10sts 6lbs.

In 1946 he was signed provisionally by Queen of the South, he had also been with Dennistoun Waverley. He was the father of Jim Dempsey who also played for Accies and then later managed them in the 1980’s.

Debut on 23rd April 1934 in a Scottish League match away to Celtic.
