1879/80

Overview

The growth of the sport was encouraging new teams to come forward and on 17th November 1879 at a meeting held in Coatbridge, the Lanarkshire Football Association was formed. The 16 clubs represented were Accies, Airdrieonians, Airdrie Excelsior, Bellshill, Cambuslang, Clarkston, Clydebank, Daisy (Bellshill), Drumpelier, Glengowan, Lindon, Plains Bluebell, Shettleston, Shotts, Stonelaw and Upper Clydesdale (Glasgow was classed as part of Lanarkshire at that time, hence why some of these names appeared). As a result of this organisation being formed, more competitive matches were possible and Accies were keen to participate.
